Jesus Wasn't Always "Nice" (repost)

There's a disturbing trend going around, even on "Christian" blogs.  People are using Jesus' name to condone sin. "Jesus was nice to everyone and never said anything mean to anyone" is being used - even by other Christians, not just the world - to silence Christians from speaking up about sin.  It's being used to defend everyone's choices and lifestyles because "Jesus never scolded anyone or judged anyone.  Because He was all about loving others." Using Jesus' love to support things that Jesus never supported. Very clever! Very evil! Basically, what they're saying is that "being nice like Jesus" means never calling anything "sin" or telling anyone to change their lifestyles or saying anything negative to anyone ever.  That Jesus never said anything against anyone else, so neither should we. Okay, I need to ask ... What Bible are you reading!?! Jesus called people "hypocrites" ( Matthew 6...

Where There is Weeping and Gnashing of Teeth! (repost)

(I'm not sure if I'm right about this; it's just what I think is a possibility right now.) “And throw the worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”   ( Matthew 25:30 ) “The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”   ( Matthew 13:49-50 ) I used to wonder about the “weeping and gnashing of teeth.”   Where is this place and who gets thrown there?   It sounds like an awful place to be, and I always assumed that it happened in hell. But what I couldn’t figure out is why the “servant who hid the talent” in Matthew 25 is thrown there, too.   It makes it sound as if a believer (a lazy one) ends up in a place with weeping and gnashing of teeth.   But how can that be if “weeping and gnashing” happens in hell, as seen in Matthew 13 ?   How can a believer end up in hell? But I think I may s...

John Calvin: Trying to Make Sense Out of Nonsense

This is point #6 from "Problems in John Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion" : Chapter 17 and Chapter 18 (Institutes, Book 1) are about Calvin trying to make sense out of how God can be the "cause" of evil yet not be held accountable for evil, how we are "controlled" by God yet can be held accountable for what we do.   In Chapter 17, section 5 , Calvin addresses the dilemma of "If God controls us and we do the evil He wills us to do, why is He not accountable for it?  Why are we?"  As I said before, Calvin's problem is his view of sovereignty and God's control.  Calvin causes his own theological problems by assuming that God causes all things - even sin - and so he has to then try to explain how we can be held accountable for the things God causes and how God cannot be held accountable for the sin/evil/unbelief He causes. But you can't make sense out of nonsense!  So it's just ends up being a bunch of ramblin...

"My Corona Blend": An Essential Oil Blend for Diffusers

(Great, now I'll be singing "My Sharona" all day!) This is an essential oil blend I made to put in our diffusers at night while we are facing this coronavirus pandemic.  I picked oils that are known for their powerful anti-viral properties, that are good against colds/flu/fever/infectious diseases, that are good for lung/respiratory health, and that help stimulate the immune system.  (I call it "My Corona Blend" for my own reference, but I make no promises about its ability to defeat the Coronavirus.) The smell of oregano and thyme really come through in this.  It smells a bit strong, but pleasant, like a lemon thyme herb plant.  If you want a less oregano/thyme smell, add about half of both of those oils. (Check out safety recommendations for each essential oil to see if they are safe in a diffuser for your family, depending on the age of everyone in your house and whether they have compromised immune systems or not.  And then adjust accordingly, a...
