Spiritual Warfare: Sword of the Spirit 4 (the sword)

Okay now, onto the list of verses I shared with my family member for her to use in spiritual battles, when Satan's got us down and cowering in fear.  These were specifically chosen for comfort, encouragement, and strength - and I added a few extra here for different kinds of temptations, trials, or confessions.

I suggest printing them out, reading them over and over again, writing them out, memorizing some, taking a list with you wherever you go, etc.  Whatever it takes to get through the hard times.

And when the attacks, temptations, or hard times come, turn them into prayers (I'll share my own personal Scripture-based prayers in the next postor simply speak out loud the ones that fit your particular struggle, trial, temptation, or fear.  Declare to yourself, to the struggle/temptation, and to the Enemy/spirit world that "It is written ..." and then quote a verse that fits.  And let God's Word comfort and still your soul as the sword of the Spirit fights for you.

[Listen to Dr. Tony Evans sermon about God's Word: Sword of the Spirit.  And watch the movie War Room.  So good!  (When I grow up, I want to be Ms. Clara... mixed with Sarah Smith from C.S. Lewis's The Great Divorce.  That's my goal: Clara + Sarah.)]

This list of verses is my labor of love, my baby, something I'm writing really for myself because I need it so much, daily - which is why I spent so much time typing it up by hand (no cut-and-paste from other sources) and why I keep adding to it.  I need to be immersed in God's Word as much as possible to keep my head above water, to encourage my heart.

I've been so discouraged for years that I'm not good at encouraging myself anymore, not good at "looking at the bright side."  (My mind can be a very dark, depressing, scary place sometimes.)  And because of this - because of a lot of upheaval, loss, tragedy, and hopelessness, too much too close together - I've been having a very hard time knowing how to pray anymore.  A hard time finding my own words to pray.

And so I fall back on Scripture.  I run to God's Word and let it hold me up, encourage me, and be my prayers.  And it's enough.  It gets me through.

For starters, I really recommend memorizing these four Psalms:

1. At the very least, Psalm 23.  If you only memorize one Psalm, let this be it.  I can't tell you how many times I quote this one from memory when I need it, such as when I feel anxiety or hopelessness creeping up on me, when all the bad things start circling around my mind, and when I was standing in the back of a courtroom waiting to be called to the stand to testify against my mother at her murder trial.  (I spent almost three hours on the stand.  She lost and got sentenced to life in prison without parole, as it probably should be.  Sad, but justice.)

2. Psalm 27, which is excellent but much longer.  I memorized this one during the investigation for my mom's trial, when I could barely stand anymore because of the crushing anxiety.  (It was also during this time that her friends and family were getting death threats and hate mail.  But, thankfully, I didn't get any because I wasn't connected with her online, and so no one knew how to find me.  But we were still terrified.  And so we pulled our kids into the house, shut up our doors and windows, and put up blackout curtains, afraid to even walk outside to get the mail.)  Anyway, if I can memorize this one when my brain was completely fried, I'm sure you can memorize it, too.

3.  And Psalm 91, another long one - but so wonderful - which I memorized at the start of the covid pandemic and all the political/social craziness - which just so happened to coincide with the start of my mom's investigation and with us leaving our church of 20 years because of the Calvinism that hijacked it.  (All of this happened within about 9 months.  It was a really, really bad bunch of years for me.  And it's a miracle that I'm still here, that my heart didn't give out.)  This is a Psalm I come back to again and again!

4. And Psalm 145, which is just a great Psalm of praise!  I memorized this one when things just kept getting worse and worse and my thinking was getting darker and darker, and I knew I needed to begin praising God in order to fight off the darkness that was smothering me, that was trying to take me down.  (I'm gonna try to memorize Psalm 121 next.  Another great one.)

(When I say I've been through a lot, I mean I've been through a lot!  When I say I understand pain and anxiety, I mean I really understand pain and anxiety - incredible pain and terror-level anxiety, for far too long!  And so when I say that I understand how hard the spiritual battles can be and how much we need God and His Word, I mean it.  I've been there, done that, and gotten through.  And so can you!)

Note: Remember that Psalms and Proverbs are songs, prayers, a heart's cries, wise sayings, and principles, not necessarily hard-core promises.  They're meant to encourage, instruct, and uplift, not to build all your theological views on.  I say this so that you don't claim something that's not a promise from God and then get your faith crushed when it doesn't happen.

And another note: This is a mix of KJV and NIV verses.  I could only use so many NIV verses because of copyright restrictions, but the KJV is open domain.  I will note which ones are KJV.  The rest are NIV: Scripture quotations taken from HOLY BIBLE, NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (registered trademark).  Copyright 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society.  Used by permission of Zondervan Publishing House.

And, take heart, you can understand the KJV just fine.  Ye shall see.  But to make it easier, I added quotations within the KJV when someone is speaking, and I capitalized pronouns that refer to God (in both translations), and I am removing or changing some of the archaic KJV words to make it more contemporary, like changing "ye/thee/thou/thine" to "you/your" (whatever the proper pronoun should be)... "shalt" to "shall"... "doth" to "does... "hast" to "has/have"... "art" to "are"... "unto" to "to"... "wilt" to "will"... "taketh" to "take"... "mine" to "my"... "shew" to "show"... "privily" to "secretly"... "for ever" to "forever"... "honour/neighbour" to "honor/neighbor," etc.  It flows easier this way.  (I won't update all, but most.  And I'll mark the ones I updated with an *.  So see the King James Bible if you want the verses as they originally are, without my changes.)

[I know what you're thinking: "Then just use the New King James which updated the language of the King James for us."  But no.  Despite what we assume, the New King James did not merely update the language of the King James, but it's actually based on different manuscripts.  But I trust the old King James most.  Though it's not perfect, I believe it's almost always the one to refer to when you have a question about what a verse is really saying.  (But for ease of reading and comprehension, I like and use the NIV, which I grew up with.  And I strongly recommend staying away from the ESV, a Calvinist Bible.)]

Exodus 14:13-14: "Do not be afraid.  Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.  The [enemy] you see today you will never see again.  The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."

From Exodus 20 (KJV*)“I am the Lord your God ... You shall have no other gods before Me.... You shall not bow down yourself to [idols], nor serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God... You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that takes His name in vain.... Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.... Honor your father and your mother... You shall not kill.  You shall not commit adultery.  You shall not steal.  You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.  You shall not covet your neighbor's house...wife...nor anything that is your neighbor's."

2 Kings 6:15-17 (KJV), (after seeing the surrounding army) "...‘Alas, my master! how shall we do?'  And [Elisha] answered, 'Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.'  And Elisha prayed, and said, ‘Lord, I pray Thee, open his eyes, that he may see.'  And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha."

2 Chronicles 14:11: “... Lord, there is no one like You to help the powerless against the mighty.  Help us, O Lord, our God, for we rely on You, and in Your name we have come against this vast army.  O Lord, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You.”

Psalm 1 (KJV*): “Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law does he meditate day and night.  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he does shall prosper.  The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.  Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.  For the Lord knows the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Psalm 3:3-8 (KJV*): “But You, O Lord, are a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of my head.  I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and He heard me out of His holy hill.  I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.  I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.  Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for You have smitten all my enemies upon the cheek bone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.  Salvation belongs to the Lord: Your blessing is upon Your people.”

Psalm 4:1,8: “Answer me when I call to you, O my righteous God.  Give me relief from my distress; be merciful to me and hear my prayer… I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”

Psalm 4:4: “In your anger do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your heart and be silent.”

Psalm 5:1-3: “Give ear to my words, O Lord.  Consider my sighing.  Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to You I pray.  In the morning, O Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait in expectation.”

Psalm 5:11-12: “But let all who take refuge in You be glad; let them ever sing for joy.  Spread Your protection over them, that those who love Your name may rejoice in You.  For surely, O Lord, You bless the righteous; You surround them with You favor as with a shield.”

Psalm 6:1-4,6,9: "O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath.  Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am faint; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are in agony.  My soul is in anguish.  How long, O Lord, how long?  Turn, O Lord, and deliver me; save me because of Your unfailing love... I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears... The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer."

Psalm 9:9-10: "The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.  Those who hope in Your name will trust in You, for You, O Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You."

Psalm 10:1,12,17-18: "Why, O Lord, do You stand far off?  Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?... Arise, Lord!  Lift up Your hand, O God.  Do not forget the helpless... You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed..."

Psalm 13 (KJV*): “How long will You forget me, O Lord? for ever? how long will You hide Your face from me?  How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall my enemy be exalted over me?  Consider and hear me, O Lord my God: lighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death; Lest my enemy say, 'I have prevailed against him;' and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved.  But I have trusted in Your mercy; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.  I will sing unto the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me.”

Psalm 15: “Lord, who may dwell in Your sanctuary?  Who may live on Your holy hill?  He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart and who has no slander on his tongue, who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman, who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the Lord, who keeps his oath even when it hurts, who lends his money without usary and does not accept a bribe against the innocent.  He who does these things will never be shaken.”

Psalm 16:1,7-9: “Keep me safe, O God, for in You I take refuge… I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.  I have set the Lord always before me.  Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.  Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure.”

Psalm 18:1-21 (KJV*): “I will love You, O Lord, my strength.  The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my [shield], and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.  I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from my enemies.  The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.  The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.  In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry came before Him, even unto His ears... He sent from above, He took me, He drew me out of many waters.  He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me... but the Lord was my stay.  He brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me, because He delighted in me... The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands has He recompensed me.  For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.”

Psalm 18:25-27 (KJV*): "With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful; with an upright man You will show Yourself upright; With the pure You will show Yourself pure... For You will save the afflicted people; but will bring down high looks."

Psalm 18:28-30 (KJV*): "For You will light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.  For by You I have run through a troop [of enemies]; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.  As for God, His way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: He is a [shield] to all those that trust in Him."

Psalm 18:31-36 (KJV*): “For who is God save the Lord?  Or who is a rock save our God?  It is God that girds me with strength, and makes my way perfect.  He makes my feet like the hinds' feet, and sets me upon my high places... You have also given me the shield of Your salvation: and Your right hand has holden me up, and Your gentleness has made me great.  You have enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.”

Psalm 19:1-3 (KJV): “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handiwork.  Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.  There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.

Psalm 19:7-11 (KJV): "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.  The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.  The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.  More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.  Moreover by them is Thy servant warned: and in keeping of them, there is great reward."

Psalm 21:7: “For [I] trust in the Lord; through the unfailing love of the Most High [I] will not be shaken.”

Psalm 23 (KJV*): “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me to lie down in green pastures: He leads me beside the still waters.  He restores my soul: He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me.  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies: You anoint my head with oil; my cup runneth over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Psalm 25:1-3 (KJV*): “Unto You, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.  O my God, I trust in You: let me not be ashamed, let not my enemies triumph over me.  Yea, let none that wait on You be ashamed…”

Psalm 25:4-5,9-12 (KJV*): "Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths.  Lead me in Your truth, and teach me: for You are the God of my salvation; on You do I wait all the day... The meek will He guide in judgment [in knowing what is right]; and the meek will He teach His way.  All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.  For Your name's sake, O Lord, pardon my iniquity; for it is great.  What man is he that fears the Lord?  him shall He teach in the way that he shall choose."

Psalm 25:15-21 (KJV*): "My eyes are ever toward the Lord; for He shall pluck my feet out of the net.  Turn Yourself to me, and have mercy on me; for I am desolate and afflicted.  The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring me out of my distresses.  Look upon my affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.... O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in You.  Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on You."

Psalm 27“The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?  When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.  Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.  One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.  For in the day of trouble He will keep me safe in His dwelling; He will hide me in the shelter of His tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.  Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at His tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord.  Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful to me and answer me.  My heart says of You, ‘Seek His face!’  Your face, Lord, I will seek.  Do not hide Your face from me, do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my helper.  Do not reject me or forsake me, O God my Savior.  Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.  Teach me Your way, O Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.  Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence.  I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Psalm 28:1-2,6-7: "To You I call, O Lord my Rock; do not turn a deaf ear to me.  For if You remain silent, I will be like those who have gone down to the pit.  Hear my cry for mercy as I call to You for help, as I lift up my hands toward Your Most Holy Place... Praise be to the Lord, for He has heard my cry for mercy.  The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped.  My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song."

Psalm 30:1-5,10-12 (KJV*): “I will extol You, O Lord; for You have lifted me up… O Lord my God, I cried unto You, and You have healed me.  O Lord, You have brought up my soul from the grave: You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.  Sing unto the Lord, O you saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness... Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me: Lord, be my helper.  You have turned for me my mourning into dancing: You have put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness... O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto You forever.”

From Psalm 31 (KJV*)“In You, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in Your righteousness.  Bow down Your ear to me; deliver me speedily: be my strong rock, for a house of defense to save me.  For You are my rock and my fortress; therefore for Your name's sake lead me, and guide me.  Pull me out of the net that they have laid secretly for me: for You are my strength.  Into Your hand I commit my spirit: You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.  I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the Lord.  I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy: for You have considered my trouble; You have known my soul in adversities; And have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: You have set my feet in a large room.  Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble: my eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.  For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones are consumed... But I trusted in You, O Lord: I said, 'You are my God.'  My times are in Your hand: deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from them that persecute me.  Make Your face to shine upon Your servant: save me for Your mercies' sake.  Let me not be ashamed, O Lord; for I have called upon You… Oh how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for them that fear You; which You have wrought for them that trust in You before the sons of men!  You shall hide them in the secret of Your presence from the pride of man: You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.  Blessed be the Lord: for He has shown me His marvellous kindness in a strong city.  But I said in my haste, 'I am cut off from before Your eyes': nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications when I cried unto You.  O love the Lord, all you His saints: for the Lord preserves the faithful, and plentifully [pays back] the proud doer.  Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you that hope in the Lord.”

Psalm 32:5: "Then I acknowledged my sin to You and did not cover up my iniquity.  I said, 'I will confess my transgressions to the Lord' - and You forgave the guilt of my sin."

Psalm 32:8: "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you."

Psalm 33:18-22 (KJV): "Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy; to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.  Our soul waiteth for the Lord: He is our help and our shield.  For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name.  Let Thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, according as we hope in Thee."

Psalm 34:1-9 (KJV): “I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.  My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.  O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.  I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears... This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.  The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear Him, and [He] delivereth them."

Psalm 34:8-9 (KJV): "O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.  O fear the Lord, ye His saints: for there is no want to them that fear Him."

Psalm 34:12-16 (KJV): "What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?  Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.  Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.  The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open unto their cry.  The face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth."

Psalm 34:17-19: "The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.  The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.  A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all."

Psalm 35:1-10,17,22,28 (KJV*): "Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.  Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help.  Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, 'I am your salvation.'  Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.  Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the Lord chase them.  Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the Lord persecute them.  For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.  Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he has hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.  And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in His salvation.  All my bones shall say, 'Lord, who is like unto You, which delivers the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that [robs] him?'... Lord, how long will You look on? rescue my soul from their destructions... keep not silence... be not far from me... And my tongue shall speak of Your righteousness and of Your praise all the day long."

Psalm 36:5,7: “Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the skies… How priceless is Your unfailing love!  Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of Your wings.”

Psalm 37:3-5 (KJV*): "Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and verily you shall be fed.  Delight yourself also in the Lord; and He shall give you the desires of your heart.  Commit your way to the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass."

Psalm 37:1-2,6-11 (KJV*): “Fret not because of evildoers, neither be envious against the workers of iniquity.  For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb... [But] He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your judgment as the noonday.  Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him: fret not because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass.  Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not yourself [because worry might lead you] to do evil.  For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.  For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, you shall diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.  But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace."

Psalm 37:12-15 (KJV*): "The wicked plot against the just, and gnash upon him with his teeth.  The Lord shall laugh at [the wicked]: for He sees that his day is coming.  The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay those of upright conversation.  [But] their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken."

Psalm 37:16-20 (KJV*): "A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked.  For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholds the righteous.  The Lord knows the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be forever.  They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.  But the wicked shall perish...

Psalm 37:23-40 (KJV*): "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and He delights in his way.  Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholds him with His hand... Depart from evil and do good; and dwell forevermore.  For the Lord loves judgment [justice], and forsakes not His saints; they are preserved forever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.  The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein forever.  The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks of judgment [justice].  The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide… Wait on the Lord and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it… But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: He is their strength in the time of trouble.  And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in Him."

From Psalm 38 (KJV*): “O Lord, rebuke me not in Your wrath: neither chasten me in Your hot displeasure... For my iniquities are gone over my head: as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me... I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long... I am feeble and sore broken... Lord, all my desire is before You; and my groaning is not hid from You.  My heart pants, my strength fails me: as for the light of my eyes, it also is gone from me… [But] in You, O Lord, do I hope: You will hear, O Lord my God... For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.  For I will declare my iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin... Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.  Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.”

From Psalm 40 (KJV*): "I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined unto me, and heard my cry.  He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.  And He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.  Blessed is that man that makes the Lord his trust, and respects not the proud, nor those who turn aside to lies.  Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works, which You have done, and Your thoughts which are to us-ward...they are more than can be numbered... I delight to do Your will, O my God: yea, Your law is within my heart... Withhold not Your tender mercies from me, O Lord: let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me.  For innumerable evils have compassed me about: my iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of my head: therefore my heart fails me.  Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me: O Lord, make haste to help me.  Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil... Let all those that seek You rejoice and be glad in You: let those who love Your salvation say continually, 'The Lord be magnified.'  But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinks of me: You are my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God."

My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.  Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror has overwhelmed me... [But] As for me, I will call upon my God; and the Lord shall save me.  Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and He shall hear my voice.  He has delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me… Cast your burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain You: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved... But my prayer is unto You, O Lord... Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.  Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.  Hear me, O Lord; for Your lovingkindness is good: turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.  And hide not Your face from Your servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.  Draw near unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of my enemies... He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and He made the waters to stand up as a heap.  In the daytime also He led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.  He split the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.  He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.  And they sinned yet more against Him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.  And they tempted God in their heart by asking for meat for their lust.  Yea, they spoke against God; they said, 'Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?  Behold, He smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can He give bread also? can He provide meat for His people?'  Therefore the Lord heard this, and was angry... 1 Peter 5:6 (KJV): "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time."

1 Peter 5:7-10: “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.  Be self-controlled and alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”

1 John 2:14 (KJV): "... the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one."

1 John 4:4 (KJV): “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome [evil ones]: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world."

1 John 5:4 (KJV): "For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world..."

Jude 1:24-25: "Now to Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy - to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen."

Rev. 21:1-4 (KJV): “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.  And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, ‘Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God.'  And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

Rev. 22:7,20-21: “Behold, I am coming soon!  Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book… He who testifies to these things says, 'Yes, I am coming soon.'  Amen.  Come, Lord Jesus.  The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people.  Amen”
