When Calvinists say "But predestination!" (shorter, basic version)

My Response To A "Predestination" Post I Recently Read

(Part of the "Predestination vs. Free-Will" series) I want to share my response to a post I read from our church.   The person who wrote the post (I believe it was our pastor) quoted Acts 2:23 : “This man [Jesus] was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to a cross.”   The writer’s point is that God pre-planned Jesus’ death and chose to use wicked men to accomplish this.   I can agree with this.   However, the underlying point of his post is that God basically caused the men to be wicked (that He planned their evilness), to accomplish His purposes.   And yet God – even though He planned for and caused these men to be wicked – cannot be accused of doing evil or wrong.  This is a typical Calvinist view.     He also goes on to say that God also planned for Adam and Eve to rebel, to fall.   That it is for His glory that they fell.   The i...

I think I stumbled upon the perfect "If They Mated ..." scenario for who I look like and how I act.  (You know, when they take two people and morph their faces into one to show what their offspring would look like if they mated.)  I wasn't trying to figure this out or anything; it just came to me as I was watching The Hobbit recently.  And once I saw it in my mind, I couldn't unsee it.  Then after I thought about possibly sharing it with all of you, my mind won't let it go until I do.  And so here it is, much to my chagrin... UGW #18: Our Responsibilities Regarding God's Will

Understanding God's Will #18   (no Calvinism stuff added to this post) : You keep saying that we have responsibilities in getting God’s Will done?    What kinds of responsibilities? I’ve already gone through many of them, but if you read the Bible, you’ll find lots more.   Because as I said before, His Will is a Verb.  It's more about the way we live in obedience to Him than it is about finding "His plan" for our life. He says to seek wisdom.    Do we?    He tells us things that He wants us to do in His Word, things that are always His Will for us, like loving our neighbor, tithing, not gossiping, etc.    Do we obey?    Are we guarding our tongues and building others up, instead of tearing them down?    Are we honoring our marriage vows, and putting up strong protective boundaries around our marriage?    Do we pray or do we think it’s good enough that He can read our minds?    Do we forgiv...

Spiritual Warfare: Satan's Schemes #1 (unbelief, sin, fear)

Ephesians 6:11 :  "Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes." Satan and demons can cause a lot of trouble (just look at the world!).  They can hurt people's bodies, minds, relationships, futures, etc.  They delight in causing people to hurt others, self-destruct, commit crimes, or engage in any of  "the acts of the sinful nature ... sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissentions, factions, and envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like" ( Gal. 5:19-23 ).   They incite  "wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity ... murder, strife and malice,"  and tempt people to become godless, truth-suppressors, thankless, foolish, dark-hearted, idol/nature-worshippers, perverted, depraved, gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of new ways to do evil, disobedient, senseless, faithless, heartless...
