She Died Too Young!

Please say a prayer for my 30-year-old brother.  His wife just unexpectedly died this morning of heart failure (after months of recovering from a near-death illness in March of this year).  Apparently, she woke up this morning feeling bad, and she asked him to rub her back ... and then she died.  She was only 30 years old, too.  And she left behind a 5-year-old, 3-year-old, and 7-month-old (I think those are the ages).  

My brother is not a believer, but please pray that God reaches out to him, comforts him, puts His saving truth in his path, protects him and their family from evil, and gives him wisdom in how to move forward.  Such a heartbreaking time!  I can't even imagine!  

 He's just the nicest, sweetest guy there is.  And their wedding anniversary is in two days.  So sad!  Last night when they were going to bed, she told him, "I wish I could marry you all over again!"  He's so thankful that those are some of the last words she said to him, but ... my goodness ... such a tragedy!

Pre-Chosen People? Is God's Call Irresistible?

(Part of the "Predestination vs. Free-Will" series) John 6:37 :   “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.”              This one confused me for awhile.   It sounded like Jesus is saying that all the people that God has pre-chosen to be believers are destined to come to faith in Him.   And that only those who are chosen by God will come to faith.              But I’m not sure if that’s what this is really saying.

Is God Drawing Lines in the Sand?

(reposted from a few years ago, updated slightly) It’s amazing and disturbing how brazen our society is in attacking everything about God and everything He created:  marriage, monogamy, sex, family, sexuality, the scientific reality of gender, morality, modesty, the value of a person, the right to life, the existence of "right and wrong," the Bible, Jesus, and Absolute Truth.  Not to mention God Himself, His very existence. We are destroying everything associated with Him (except nature – we worship that), and then we call ourselves "progressive." Accident? Or not?

I had one of those moments this afternoon.  The kind that make you go, "Hmm?" I went to Walmart with my kids to buy something for my son's birthday.  I ended up parking next to a minivan that was pulled back a little farther into the lane than it should be, which I knew would make it a bit harder to see around when I backed up.  I honestly thought, Maybe I should park one spot over so it's easier to see when I back out?   But I figured I'd be fine.  I'd just be extra careful. Yeah, you know where this is going! Well, as I was backing out of the spot, I glanced in my rearview mirror and in my reverse-camera screen to make sure no one was right behind me.  Then I checked to the right and carefully to the left to make sure no cars or pedestrians were coming. Scripture-Based Prayers For The Hardest Times (updated)

As some of you may know, a close relative of mine is in jail right now awaiting trial for ... well ... for something serious.  She is maintaining her innocence, while the rest of us think there's more to the story than what she's saying.  There will be a trial coming up sometime in 2021, and I will have to testify against her.  I'm really not looking forward to that.   Anyway, I know I can't fix her situation for her.  I can't make it all better.  All I can do is offer whatever support I can, even though I have to testify against her eventually.  And even if I think she's not being totally honest with the authorities right now, I know that, deep down, she is a Christian.  A Christian who, I believe, is running from the Holy Spirit's conviction right now. One of the ways I decided to support and encourage her is to keep sending her Scripture-based things.  Quotes.  Bible verses.  Bible studies.  Articles.  Etc.  ...

When Forgiveness is Hard

(This is a continuation of point #10 in "Getting through the 'broken' times." )  10.   Forgive.             Going through painful trials often gives us tunnel-vision.   All we see is how everyone else is treating us wrong and how life is being unfair.   And we make the pain worse by dwelling on all the ways we’ve been cheated in life.   We catalog our hurts, the ways people let us down, the ways they treated us poorly, the ways God let us down, etc.   And we grow bitter and more discouraged and more closed-off.                 Bitterness is a poison.   And it will slowly destroy our relationship with others, our faith, our emotional health, and our physical well-being.   Good never comes from carrying around giant chains of unforgiveness and bitterness.   It only weighs us down, making our futures as pathetic as...
