Christian Testimony: Young Don Reborn

I recently began looking up videos again on other Christian's testimonies of coming to faith in God, in Jesus.  (I find it helps bolster my faith, especially in these dark times.)  And I found this guy.  I've never heard of him and don't know anything about him except these three videos I watched ... but I gotta say, I really like him.  Not only is he an enjoyable guy, but for being such a young-ish Christian, he's really got a lot of wisdom, boldness, and spiritual maturity.  And I appreciate his humility and honesty.  May God bless him and his ministry.  

(And I can totally relate to the nighttime demonic harassment he went through.  Been there myself.  Non-Christians will call it "sleep paralysis," chalking it up to purely physical/mental causes, but we Christians know what it really is.  See my post on it by clicking here.)

Is Our Eternity Decided For Us?

Since we've been talking about the End Times and heaven and hell, the next logical question might be ... "But do we even have a choice about our eternal 'destinies'?  Do we have the free-will to choose Jesus and heaven, or does God predestine us to heaven or hell?" Maybe this question won't cross the minds of many of you.  But it's one I have studied and thought about a lot ... mostly because we have a pastor who hammers the idea of predestination, acting like anyone who disagrees with him is disagreeing with the Bible and dishonoring God.  Like his view is the only way to read the Bible! Free-Will" series) I was listening to a speaker recently (our "new" pastor that I told you about earlier) who  strongly believes in predestination, that God decides who to save and who to condemn to hell and that He causes everything we do, even our sins, for His glory and purposes. And I . . . well . . . I couldn’t disagree more! It's so sad to hear about all the celebrities who have recently committed suicide (or about anyone who has committed suicide, for that matter).  My heart breaks for them, for the pain they went through, and for the ones who love them, for the pain they are now going through.  It is truly a tragedy. Psalm 5: A Prayer for Our Country and World

Franklin Graham has called for a day of prayer and fasting tomorrow, October 25, for all believers to call on God for His help with the upcoming election.  I hope all believers will humble themselves before God, calling on Him for His help not just with the election but with everything -  the moral condition of our country, the breakdown of our society, the fear that haunts us all, the brokenness all around us as we humans implode and race towards wickedness and destruction, etc.  Everything is going wrong all over the place, and we need more than ourselves to fix it.  We need God.   Anyway, as I was reading Psalm 5 this morning, I realized what a fitting prayer it is for our country, our world, right now.  And so I am writing it here, altered slightly to be a prayer from all believers.   Sadly, I think we are past the point of repair.  I think our world has broken down so much that the only real hope left, unless God chooses to interv...

Why is Calvinism so dangerous? #7 (Hard hearts)

  [In this series, I'm breaking the long post   "Why is Calvinism so dangerous?"   into bite-sized pieces.] 7. The Bible (and the concordance) says ...  That when God "hardens" hearts, it is retribution for first hardening your own heart, for  resisting God for so long even after He's been patient and long-suffering with you. But Calvinism says ...  God arbitrarily chooses whose hearts to harden against Him (non-elect)  and  whose to turn to Him (elect), with no in put/responsibility on our parts. Romans 9:18:   "Therefore, God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden."   [Calvinists say "See, God hardens whomever He wants.  We have nothing to do with His choice of whom to harden and whom to elect."  But in the concordance, "hardens" is retribution for first hardening your own heart, for resisting God.  And so, yes, we do have something to do with whether we are hardened or not....

I didn't know if I was going to bring this up again or not.  In some ways, I want to go about my days as if it never happened.  I don't really like talking about it because then my mind goes to dark places.  And I get into an emotional funk.  (You'd think I would be comfortable with emotional funks by this point.  I've had so many of them.)   But in some ways, I have to talk about it (and write about it) because that's how I process it, how I get it out of my system, how I try to support others who are going through hard things too, how I try to turn it around for good in any way I can, and how I search for the silver linings.   [This is the kind of thing that shows why I write the way I do.  I don't write about pain I know nothing about.  I write about the deep, overwhelming pain I do know, the suffocating pain I live with.  About anxiety and fear and despair and helplessness and hopelessness.  I am struggling through life like...

A Quick Study Of Calvinism's Favorite Words

  I am going to do a quick study of several of Calvinism’s favorite words – sovereign, predestined, elect, chosen, whosoever, and hardens - looking them up in the Bible (in context) and in the concordance to see what we can learn about them.   1.   Sovereign Despite the fact that Calvinists heavily build their theology on their idea that being “sovereign” means that God has to control every detail, every sin, every choice we make, every speck of dust or else He can’t possibly be God … this word NEVER shows up in the King James Bible or in the concordance.   (Strong’s concordance uses the King James.) And when it is used in, say, the NIV, it's used as a title (Sovereign Lord), not a description of how God has to act.  Sovereign is about the position God holds, being the Top Dog, the High King, the One over and above all, the One who has the final say in all matters. “Sovereign” is about the position of power and authority that God holds.   But...
