A Website Worth Visiting: Hoppers Crossing Christian Church

I recently found a good website that has lots of information about the dangers and errors of Calvinism:  Hoppers Crossing Christian Church .  (Also try this link for blog post.) #2: Embracing Hope, Jan. 2016 (repost)

[Reposted from my other blog, from January 2016.  This comes shortly after the "Wrestling With God" post, the summer when I found myself utterly discouraged by life, by gardening.  When it seemed like one thing after the next just kept going wrong.  This was my call to hope again.   Update:   I mentioned in the last post that my mom is currently trying to drink herself to death.  I got a call last night that she was found unconscious at a friend's house after drinking since 10 a.m. that morning and taking a bunch of Librium.  They called me last night to tell me that she was in the hospital with a blood alcohol level of 375, unconscious, and not breathing on her own.  (A couple days ago, she went in with level of 400.)  They had to put tubes in her lungs to keep her alive.  It's the fourth time, they said, that the ambulance was called on her in about a week.  I tell ya, it seems almost supernatural that she hasn't died yet....

What Does The Bible Say About Homosexuality?

So Christian musician Lauren Daigle says she doesn't know either way what the Bible says about homosexuality, whether it's right or wrong.  She says that if anyone finds out, let her know.   Okay, so there's several possibilities about what's happening here.  Among them are: 1.   She has never really read her Bible.  (Or she doesn't want to know what it says, so she isn't studying it very closely.) 2.   She is afraid to say what she really thinks because she knows it would destroy her career.  Maybe it's about her desire to be popular.  Maybe it's about money.  Maybe it's about fear of losing potential listeners that she wants to reach through her music. 3.   She doesn't want to say the truth because she knows it will hurt people (particularly her homosexual friends) and turn people off, and she feels bad about offending anyone.  Maybe she is trying to protect people from the sting of Truth, of out genuine (misguided) conce...

A Little Girl's Nonsensical Sign

I saw a picture online of a little girl holding up a sign.   She had a great big smile on her face, yet she was clearly too young to understand what the sign meant.   But the sign said something about how religion says that people are broken, imperfect, sinful, etc., and how science (a world without God) says that people are intelligent, beautiful, capable of great things, etc.   And then it asks us to decide which one is more harmful, obviously implying that religion is negative and damaging, while science is positive and affirming. This sign that the little girl was holding bothered me.   Because it’s nonsense.   Because it doesn’t give an accurate picture of Christianity.   And so, in response, I want to make my own list, which I think more accurately represents Christianity and science.   [In this series, I'm breaking the long post   "Why is Calvinism so dangerous?"   into bite-sized pieces.]   8.    The Bible says ...  We are to evangelize because it's how people will hear the Gospel so that they can believe.  By hearing the Gospel, we can believe, and by believing, we inherit eternal life. Romans 10:14 :   "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in?  And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?  And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?"
