Leighton Flowers is a former 5-point Calvinist who now writes extensively against Calvinism at Soteriology 101.  His writing is very concise, polite, and easy-to-understand.  I've visited his site a lot since experiencing Calvinism in our church, and it's one of the top ones I recommend.  My husband and 17-year-old son listen to him all the time.  Here's his YouTube channel and his Facebook page.

I generally don't make New Year's Resolutions.  I mean I do sometimes, but I don't really see the point because they never last.  It's often more fun making the resolution than keeping the resolution, isn't it?  And so what started out as a grand idea on January 1st becomes a grand flop by January 31st.  We can waste more time planning and daydreaming about our resolutions than actually doing them, am I right?😁   (Besides, if it's important enough, we'll do whatever it is when we're motivated enough to do it, regardless of the time of year.)   And so instead of any grand resolutions these past several years, I've been trying to think of more light-hearted things to "resolve" to do throughout the year, relaxing things.   Who says resolutions have to be lofty or serious anyway? On Spurgeon's "Calvinism is the gospel"

The Early Church and God's Gender

I said in the last post that there was one article on a Christian News website that bothered me enough to remove the link to that website.  But then I re-added the link, and decided to simply write about the bothersome article here. The article is entitled "What The Early Church Thought About God's Gender."   In this article, the author is trying to make a case for God/Jesus being feminine, more feminine than the Word really portrays them.   I have no problem with saying that God/Jesus has a feminine side - a gentle, loving, nurturing side, like all people do to some degree.  Or with saying that since God created man and woman in His image then it must mean that feminine and masculine characteristics come from Him and are evident in His nature.  It's just that men got the more masculine traits and women got the more feminine, and that men and women together in marriage give us a more complete picture of the total nature of God.   [In this series, I'm breaking the long post   "Why is Calvinism so dangerous?"   into bite-sized pieces.] 2. The Bible says ...  God is not willing that any man should perish, He wants all to be saved, His saving grace is available to all. But Calvinism says ...  God predestined most people to hell for His pleasure and glory, His saving grace was never for the non-elect . 2 Peter 3:9 :   "... He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."   [However, Calvi-god predestines most people to perish, but then he says here that he doesn't really want anyone to perish.  Deceptive!  And if he gets glory for predestining people to perish, then isn't he denying himself glory by saying he doesn't want anyone to perish?  If predestining people to hell truly was glorifying to him, then shouldn't he - and Calvinists - celebrate people going to hell because it brings Calvi-god more glory?  If Calvi...

Spiritual Warfare: Satan's Schemes #9 (bitterness, unforgiveness)

This is the next-to-last of the "Satan's Schemes" posts in the Spiritual Warfare series (and it's a repost from something I wrote elsewhere)... and then I'll  move on. John 10:10 :  "Jesus said, ‘The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy...'"   [In this series, I'm breaking the long post   "Why is Calvinism so dangerous?"   into bite-sized pieces.] 5.    The Bible says ...  God   expects us to seek Him in order to find Him, to find new life in Him. But Calvinism says ...  God commands us to seek Him but no one can seek Him unless He makes them seek (and He only makes the elect seek/find/believe in Him). Deuteronomy 4:29 :  "But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him, if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul." Hebrews 1 1:6 :  "... anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Winning the Battle

(Reposted from my other blog ... because I needed to be reminded of it often.) I have been in a “funk” lately.  I get in them often, comes with being a child from a broken home.  (This is a repost of something I wrote years ago, but it still strongly applies.)   Prayer has felt futile.  I’ve been wanting to pull back from people.  I am struggling to accept certain “life problems” that I wish I didn’t have.  And I constantly deal with feelings of failure and not mattering. I know it’s not proper for a Christian to expose the fact that they are dealing with depression and frustration with God and disappointment with prayer and unhappiness with life.  I know we are supposed to plaster on that “good, happy, Christian smile” and act like we are full of joy and peace and contentment.  (Or are we?)   But this is the truth about how I feel.  And if I can’t be real with God and other Christians (even anonymously on this blog), then who can I be r...
